TRI GREENCARD |
(Toxics Release Inventory) |
| DATABASE DESCRIPTION : | |
| The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) database contains information on specific toxic chemical releases for more than 650 toxic chemicals that are being used, manufactured, treated, transported, or released into the environment. Manufacturers of these chemicals are required to report the locations and quantities of chemicals stored on-site to state and local governments. The reports are submitted to the EPA and state governments along with other waste management activities which are reported annually by certain covered industries as well as federal facilities. This inventory was established under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA) which requires facilities to use their best readily available data to calculate their releases and waste management estimates. If facilities do not have actual monitoring data, submitted values are derived from various estimation techniques. There are now nearly 650 toxic chemicals and chemical compounds on the list of chemicals that must be reported to EPA and the states under the EPCRA/TRI Program. Records can be retrieved by chemical (e.g., CAS RN or chemical name) or by facility (e.g., name, EPAID number, ZIP code, etc.) or by a combination of searches. | |
