| AGRIS (1975-present) This international database of more than 2.2 million records is designed to help identify problems involved in all aspects of world food supply. AGRIS, which corresponds to the print publication AgrIndex, is produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Over 100 national and multinational centers take part in the collection of agricultural literature drawn from journals, books, reports, and conference papers. Each country which participates in AGRIS submits information about documents published within its own territories. All contributing sources are of non-U.S. origin. FAO acts as a coordinating agency within its global information system, facilitating the exchange of agricultural information to its member countries. AGRIS is an extensive collection of global agricultural literature, reflecting research results and information on food production and rural development. AGRICOLA (1970-present) With over 4.3 million records, AGRICOLA provides global coverage of primary information sources in agriculture and related fields. Records are drawn from literature citations of journal articles, monographs, theses, patents, translations, microforms, audiovisuals, software, and technical reports. AGRICOLA is sponsored and maintained by the National Agricultural Library and serves as their document locator and bibliographic access and control system. AGRICOLA records are used to produce the printed Bibliography of Agriculture, as well as other bibliographic series and products of NAL. AGRICOLA has used the CABI Thesaurus since 1985, as the source for controlled vocabulary terms for subject indexing. Library of Congress Subject Headings are used as the controlled vocabulary for cataloging records. Over 2,000 serial titles are reviewed for indexing. Books, pamphlets, conference proceedings, translations, book chapters, research reports, government documents, in both English and many non-English languages, are included in the database. |
