Con esta segunda edición de Cerramientos de edificios. Cubiertas se ha perseguido profundizar y actualizar el contenido de la primera, para un mejor conocimiento y estudio de estos cerramientos, aprovechando la aprobación del Código Técnico de la Edificación para adaptar las exigencias que hay que tener en cuenta en el proyecto y en la ejecución de cubiertas. En esta publicación se aborda la cubierta como envoltura global o cerramiento, que permite aislarse de las acciones exteriores y conseguir unas condiciones adecuadas en el interior del edificio para que el hombre pueda llevar a cabo sus actividades con bienestar y seguridad. La edificación actual se caracteriza por una evolución de las técnicas constructivas, por una mayor rapidez en el desarrollo y ejecución de los proyectos y obras, y por un aumento de las exigencias definidas en las nuevas normativas. Estas circunstancias motivan la necesidad de mejorar la definición de los proyectos y de una gestión y control más eficiente durante la ejecución de las obras. A menudo, la cubierta es un subsistema al que se le dedica poca atención en el diseño, ya que pasa más desapercibida que otros cerramientos como por ejemplo las fachadas. Por ello, en esta publicación se ha pretendido recoger los principales componentes de las cubiertas planas e inclinadas, así como de los elementos de iluminación cenital, para que sirvan para una adecuada definición y resolución constructiva de este tipo de cerramiento y de sus diversos puntos singulares. Se muestran directrices para la elaboración del proyecto de cubierta a través de pautas de gestión de calidad y fichas de autocontrol que pueden servir para la definición de los distintos documentos que componen el proyecto. Además, para la fase de ejecución de obras se presentan unas fichas de control de calidad que pueden emplearse, tanto por la empresa constructora responsable de la ejecución, como por la dirección facultativa. Para cerrar el ciclo de análisis, en el último capítulo se trata la patología y rehabilitación de cubiertas.
