What is the NTIS Database? This database provides full descriptive summaries of more than 2.3 million documents and other materials NTIS has received from U.S. Government agencies since 1964. It offers unparalleled bibliographic coverage of U.S. government and worldwide government-sponsored research.

The National Technical Information Service serves our nation as the largest central resource for government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today. For more than 50 years NTIS has assured businesses, universities, and the public timely access to well over 2.3 million publications covering over 350 subject areas. Their mission supports the nation's economic growth by providing access to information that stimulates innovation and discovery.

The database includes information from such departments as the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and many others. International contributors to the NTIS database include organizations such as the Japan Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI), the German Federal Ministry of Research and Technology (BMFT), and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Many of the documents abstracted in the database can be ordered from NTIS. The availability and price of each article is indicated within the record. Contact and order information is also included.

Each year, NTIS adds more than 70,000 new items to the NTIS Database. These items include: technical publications & documents, government reports & studies, electronic data files, audiovisuals, software, and standards.
