Product Overview

Water Resources Abstracts (1967-present) is a comprehensive, multi-database reservoir of essential water information. The complete Selected Water Resources Abstracts (SWRA) file is NISC's unique version featuring data that was cleaned up during the years NISC published SWRA exclusively for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). First-rate coverage of water literature continues with ProQuests' Water Resources Abstracts, and the IRIS database provides valuable material on water quality. Other records-unavailable from ProQuest or other vendors- are provided directly to NISC by the USGS. Only NISC's WRA provides powerful searching with the WRSIC Thesaurus - your pipeline to three decades of water-research information in these files.
Database Content

Water Resources Abstracts (1994-present)
ProQuest continues the valuable work of indexing and abstracting the world's literature on water resources. The scope of coverage of the Water Resources Abstracts database is modeled after SWRA (see below). Approximately 14,000 records are added per year.

Selected Water Resources Abstracts (1967-94)
SWRA provides more than 271,138 abstracts compiled by the Water Resources Scientific Information Center (WRSIC) of the USGS. SWRA provides thorough coverage of worldwide technical literature across the life, physical, and social-science aspects of water resources as well as U.S. Government documents produced by the USGS's many research facilities. Records are drawn from journals, monographs, conference proceedings, reports, court cases, and other federal and state publications. SWRA, and now Water Resources Abstracts, are your best sources for issues pertaining to groundwater, water quality, water planning, and water law and rights.

Water Quality Instructional Resources Information System (1979-89)
The IRIS database, from the Environmental Quality/Instructional Resources Center at Ohio State University, provides more than 2,640 abstracts on drinking water, wastewater, and hazardous and toxic materials. Sources include journal articles, instructional materials, curriculum guides, films, slides, videotapes, technical manuals, bibliographies, and reference materials.

The WRSIC Thesaurus
NISC provides very powerful automated searching using the WRSIC Thesaurus, a complete list of over 5,500 official index terms. The thesaurus can be displayed in various ways and is easily navigated. The explode command lets you search narrower terms and even include related terms. Using a thesaurus to construct precise, powerful keyword searches has never been simpler.
