Abstract

The tropical legume Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit is reviewed with respect to distribution, botanical description, cytology, climatic response, soil and nutrient requirements, establishment, management, herbage production, nutrient value, animal disorders and animal performance. The conclusion drawn is that this legume may fulfil a forage production role in South Africa.
