Management trends in the softwood sawmilling industry in Southern Africa

Abstract

The softwood sawmilling industry today has shifted generally from productionorientated to marketing orientated management. The basic areas of financial, production, marketing and personnel management are defined, and the importance of interaction in these areas stressed (The systems concept of management). Certain trends in sawmill cutting policy are discussed; these trends illustrate the process of adaptation of the sawmilling enterprise to a changing economic situation.
