Abstract

This paper describes the results of a research project which was undertaken at Stellenbosch over a period of twelve months with three eucalyptus species viz. Eucalyptus diversicolor, Eucalyptus maculata and Eucalyptus saligna and two Pinus species viz. Pinus roxburghii and Pinus pseudostrobus, to establish the equilibrium moisture content of planks exposed to conditions indoors, outdoors but under cover and outdoors exposed to the elements. In the latter instance one lot was laid flat and the other upright. One half of the parcel of planks was sawn radially (quarter sawn) and the other half tangentially (flat sawn). In addition, one half was planed while the other half remained fine sawn.
