Abstract

Comparison of the type of Simocephalus riggenbachi Sternfeld 1910 with material from Nigeria and Ghana suggests that it is based on a peripheral variant of Mehela crossi (Boulenger 1895) and should therefore be placed in synonymy. Although the type locality was given as ‘Ubac, Kamerun’, this apparently refers to the village of Ubao, near the upper reaches of the Benue River.
