The LiCCA Project 1996–1999 (Languages in Contact and Conflict in Africa): A Linguistic Approach to Cultural Understanding

Abstract

This report offers a very brief outline of the development of the research and awareness-raising project called LiCCA (Languages in Contact and Conflict in Africa). This paper, particularly Section 1, is mainly based on a text by Dirven and Blommaert entitled “The Africanisation of LiCCA”, which was a discussion theme presented at the LiCCA workshop in Tanzania (September 1996). In Section 2 the most important decisions taken at the workshop are summarised. Section 3, finally, presents some ongoing research projects.
